Its most obvious consequence is the loss of teeth, but <strong>Periodontal disease also affects our health in other ways. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When oral hygiene is not correct, bacteria accumulate between the teeth and the gums. Over time, these bacteria weaken and inflame the tissues surrounding the tooth. This causes the gums to bleed easily.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Depending on the severity of the infection, we speak of two types of periodontal disease:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gingivitis. <strong>It is the most common and mildest infection<\/strong>. It manifests itself with inflammation and redness of the gums and can also present bleeding.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Periodontitis. If the gingivitis is not solved, this<strong> can evolve affecting the tissues that hold the tooth<\/strong>. It usually presents with pain when chewing, persistent bad breath and teeth that move.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When the infection is <strong>very advanced causes the retraction of the gum and even the loss of dental pieces<\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although proper oral hygiene is essential to prevent these problems, periodontal disease can also have other causes:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Diseases such as diabetes and leukemia<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Intake of certain medications<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hormonal changes during pregnancy and menopause<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">genetic predisposition<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">tobacco use<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tighter fillings <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>WHY IS PERIODONTICS IMPORTANT?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many people with periodontal disease <strong>they are not aware of it because they have no symptoms<\/strong>. Generally, they go to the dentist when they start to feel discomfort.
